You are hereby invited to join the Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers at our upcoming ZOOM Webinar on Monday November 25, 2024 at 7 pm EST.  We are pleased to welcome Lindsay Audin, CEM LEED AP, Croton Sustainability Committee Chairman and CSC Coordinator, who will present on “Solar canopies: an expanding opportunity for parking lots and structures”.

While giant ground-mounted solar farms make sense in rural areas with lots of space, solar canopies are more appropriate for tight urban and suburban areas where open space is too expensive or simply unavailable. The presentation will review canopies installed over parking lots at both ground level and on commercial rooftops and will focus on the now nearly-complete 4.22 MW system at the Metro-North train station in Croton, NY, about 30 miles north of NYC. Spearheaded by Audin, it includes a 3.5 MW power storage system, and will soon be home to two dozen EV chargers. Funding was via a community solar contract and State grants. Once power starts flowing, the village of Croton will begin receiving leasing rent from the developer, Sol Systems of Washington, DC.

Mr. Audin is the semi-retired president of Energywiz, Inc., a consulting firm he formed in 1996. He has been in the energy services business for over 40 years, and an AEE member since 1989. For 8 years prior to opening Energywiz, he was the energy manager for Columbia University, during which he won numerous awards, including induction into AEE’s Energy Managers Hall of Fame in 1996. He is a Certified Energy Manager, a LEED Accredited Professional, author of hundreds of articles on energy issues in trade publications, and a 2017 book on electric rates.  His clients have included many large commercial, industrial, and institutional firms in the United States, and several foreign countries. In the late ‘90s, he pioneered techniques now used by many energy professionals to visualize and analyze interval data.  Through AEE, he taught over 150 live seminars.
