AEE-LI Meeting April 29, 2019 at 7 pm at NYIT, featuring New York Power Authority New York Energy Manager Program

The Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers welcomed at our meeting on Monday, April 29, 2019 Ms. Rebecca Hughes of the New York Power Authority, who presented on “How can we use big data to better manage our facilities?” Rebecca presented on the role of energy management information systems including best practices for securely collecting the right data. She also shared a recent case study from a submetering and advisory service project at Stony Brook University under the New York Power Authority (NYPA) New York Energy Manager (NYEM) Program.

Rebecca Hughes is the program manager for marketing and training for the New York Energy Manager (NYEM), a virtual energy management service of the New York Power Authority (NYPA). Prior to joining NYPA in 2017, she managed workforce development for NYSERDA for eight years. Rebecca has a passion for big ideas that make the world a better place, especially those that improve the environment and society.

Robert Bradford also assisted in the presentation.  He has more than 30 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design, and over 15 years’ experience in energy efficiency. As the Manager of Mechanical Engineering in the Energy Efficiency Group for the New York Power Authority (NYPA), his role is that of principal oversight of both energy savings calculation conformance to NYPA standards; and also technical oversight of large mechanical engineering design work undertaken on NYPA Energy Efficiency projects for governmental customers.  Mr. Bradford is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York, as well as a Certified Energy Manager and a Certified Building Commissioning Professional through the AEE. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Energy Management at NYIT.

 

AEE-LI Meeting March 25, 2019 at 7 pm at NYIT, featuring Lockheed Martin on PSEG-LI Programs

For our Monday, March 25, 2019 meeting, The Long Island Chapter of AEE welcomed Mr. Alex Valentino and Mr. Jean-Pierre Rodriguez from Lockheed Martin Energy, who presented on PSEG Long Island’s Commercial Energy Efficiency Programs. 

Alex Valentino, EIT, CEM is a Mechanical Engineer with 4 years of engineering experience in both the construction and energy sectors. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering at NYIT, with the hope of starting a business one day, as he already knew about processes like the asc 606 definition that is useful for this.

Jean-Pierre Rodriguez, CEM is a Sustainable Energy Consultant with nearly a decade of experience in the energy efficiency and sustainability sector. He is a graduate of Adelphi University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics, and he holds a Master of Science in Energy Management from NYIT.

Campus meetings are free of charge and are held at the NYIT Old Westbury Campus at 7 pm.  Announcements of Speakers and Topics will be posted on this site and emailed to the chapter list, including local New York area AEE members and others who have provided email addresses to the Chapter Board members.

Refreshments (Water, snacks) will be provided at no charge at our Meetings.  We welcome all interested in our topics

Monday Oct. 22, 2018 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting – presentation by Tara Bono of the Solar Energy Industries Association on the Latest in Homeowner Solar Issues

The Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers meeting, Monday, October 22, 2018 welcomed Tara Bono from Long Island Solar Energy Industries Association (LISEIA) and Marketing Manager at EmPower Solar, a leading New York solar design, engineering, and installation company, who presented “What’s the latest on homeowner solar installations?”, including how solar works, the different ways to go solar, answered the hot topic questions surrounding leases / ppa’s and the home sale transfer process and “building and designing solar ready” to help industry professionals.

Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 – AEE-LI Meeting – presentation on Conservation Voltage Reduction by Legend Power Systems

AEE-LI Chapter Meeting – Monday May 21, 2018 – Dr. Amundsen presents “Micro Structures: Going Green by Going Small”

You are hereby invited to join the Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers at our upcoming meeting, Monday, May 21, 2018 at 7 pm, to be held in Theobald Hall Room 411, at the Old Westbury Campus of NYIT.  We are pleased to welcome our own Dr. Robert Amundsen, who will present “Micro Structures: Going Green by Going Small” and explain how significant energy savings can be achieved by downsizing the building footprint. This can be accomplished by adopting a more sustainable lifestyle, and using compact equipment. The financial and environmental benefits are significant.

Robert N. Amundsen, Ph.D., CEM, LEED AP BD+C, is the Director of the M.S. in Energy Management program at the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences of New York Institute of Technology. He is responsible for programs at the NYIT campuses in Old Westbury, Manhattan, Vancouver, and online. Dr. Amundsen is the President of the Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers. He is a past recipient of the Environmental Educator of the Year Award, and the Energy Professional Development Award. He served as the Engineering Faculty Advisor for the NYIT Solar Decathlon Team. He earned a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy and a B.S. in Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Rochester, followed by an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Energy Management and Policy at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

AEE-LI Chapter Meeting – Monday April 23, 2018 – Green Power Tower: Power Plant of the Future, a vertical axis wind turbine design

At our Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers meeting, Monday, April23, 2018 at the Old Westbury Campus of NYIT, we welcomed Mr. Max Aginskiy and Ilya Tsitron, who presented Green Power Tower: Power Plant of the Future.  The Green Power Tower is a vertical axis wind turbine design unlike any other wind turbine. It is a stable cylinder-shaped tower that has no moving parts outside of the structure and works with any wind direction.  Mr. Ilya Tsitron is the inventor of the Green Power Tower.

Max Aginskiy holds a Master’s of Science in Environmental Technology and Sustainability, with honors from The New York Institute of Technology. He has furthered his R&D studies in renewable energy generation, focusing on wind power with extensive experience in power plant systems, wind turbine design and implementation.   Ilya Tsitron holds a Master’s of Civil Engineering, from the Crimea University of Civil Engineering. He holds the patent for a stackable omnidirectional vertical axle wind turbine, called Green Power Tower.

AEE-LI Chapter Meeting – Monday March 26, 2018 – Easy, Quick Payback, Energy Efficient & Safety Solutions by SHANNON Enterprises, with National Grid Rebates

The Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers welcomed Mr. Mike Makofsky, Northeast Regional Manager at Shannon Enterprises WNY, Inc., who presented on Blanket Insulation for easy and quick energy efficiency and safety.  Mr. Makofsky was joined by Ms. Laura McNeill, Energy Efficiency Channel Sales Partner at National Grid, who spoke about National Grid Energy Savings Opportunities and Incentive Programs.

Mr. Makofsky is an active participant in many professional associations, including AEE, APPA, IFMA, BOMA, DVGBC and ASHE. Ms. McNeill has extensive experience in energy efficiency and incentives for all types of projects.
