4/19/2010 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - Jim Smith of AERTC
At our April 19, 2010 meeting, AEE-LI welcomed Jim Smith of Stony Brook University, who presented on some of the projects being supported by the Advanced Energy Research & Technology Center (AERTC), including smart grid and plug-in hybrids. Jim serves at Stony Brook University as the Assistant Vice President for economic development and also as Director of the AERTC, located at Stony Brook University.

3/15/2010 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - Real-Time Energy Monitoring
Our March 15 meeting welcomed Mike Duckfield of Noveda Technologies, who presented on "Real-Time Energy Monitoring Systems". Noveda provides innovative solutions that monitor energy consumption from conventional and renewable sources with web-based, software monitors, diagnoses, measures and tracks building energy use and efficiency in real-time. Mr. Duckfield is an NYIT MS Energy Management grad.

11/23/2009 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - LEED Best Practices
For our November meeting AEE-LI welcomed James (Jimmy) Carchietta, LEED AP, Founder and CEO, and Frank Cuttita, PE, CEM, CEA, Director of Technical Services, for The Cotocon Group, who presented on LEED® and Current Best Practices: "Reducing Energy Use in New and Existing Commercial Buildings." Using some of The Cotocon Group’s current projects in NYC and Long Island as examples, the speakers addressed how a whole building approach partnered with current best practices in energy conservation integrates with LEED principles and practices to reduce commercial building energy use.
Mr. Carchietta has decades of experience contracting large-scale commercial projects. He leads The Cotocon Group in getting green “done right”. Mr. Cuttita has worked with noted engineering firms, including Johnson Controls and Consentini Associates.

10/26/2009 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - EMS Systems
The 10/26/09 meeting featured a presentation by David Unger, COO of U.S. Energy Group, a metro-New York based firm founded by Jerry Pindus, which develops and integrates energy control, monitoring and analysis systems for large residential properties. The presentation, on the history of Energy Management Systems (EMS) and US Energy Group's current applications, included the pioneering role of Mr. Pindus in developing EMS systems over 30 years ago.

6/5/2009 NYIT Energy Conference: “Innovative Technologies and Green Collar Careers”
New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) hosted the fourth annual energy conference “Innovative Technologies and Green Collar Careers” on June 5, 2009 at de Seversky Center on the Old Westbury Campus of NYIT. AEE-LI Chapter served as a Sponsor for the conference and several Board members attended, including Dr. Amundsen, chapter President, who participated in the event.

5/4/2009 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - Insulation - the Forgotten Technology
AEE-LI's April/May meeting was held Monday May 4, 2009 at the NYIT campus featured Ronald (Ron) L. King, Past President and Industry Consultant, National Insulation Association, who presented on “Insulation, the Forgotten Technology for Energy Conservation & Emission Reduction”. The informative presentation featured benefits and sources addressing improved mechnical insulation techniques, and a demonstration of some evolving comprehensive web-based resources.

3/30/2009 AEE-LI Chapter March Meeting: Energy Tax Incentives
The AEE Long Island Chapter welcomed Charles Goulding Attorney/CPA/MBA, Jacob Goldman Engineer/MBA from Energy Tax Savers Inc. and several other staff to our March 30, 2009 meeting. They presented a comprehensive summary on tax incentives available for energy projects related to recent legislation: EPAct 2005 and the new federal stimulus package. 2/11/2009 AEE-LI Chapter Spring 2009 Meetings
The AEE Long Island Chapter will hold our Spring 2009 meetings on Mondays at 7 pm: March 30, 2009 and May 4, 2009 (rescheduled from April 27). We will also be participating in the NYIT Energy Symposium on June 5, 2009. Spring 2009 Meetings will be held in Room 122 of Harry Schure Hall (new location; next to Anna Rubin Hall) on the Old Westbury campus of NYIT. Members and non-members are welcome to attend.

11/24/2008 AEE-LI Chapter November Meeting - Superconductors
The AEE Long Island Chapter November monthly meeting was held Monday November 24, 2008 at 7pm. The meeting featured Robert M. Peras of NYC Office of Energy Conservation, who presented on the topic “Future of Electric Transmission in the U.S.: High Temperature Superconductors”.

10/27/2008 AEE-LI Chapter October Meeting - HVAC Heat Exchangers
AEE-LI Chapter held our October 2008 Meeting on Monday Oct. 27. The presenter was Klas C. Haglid, President of Building Performance Equipment, Inc., who discussed "Case Studies in Reducing HVAC Energy Costs through Innovative Heat Exchanger/Recovery System". Mr. Haglid holds a number of patents for systems combining energy recovery devices with innovative controls. He has conducted research at DuPont and the U.S. Department of Energy and holds Professional Engineer licenses in eleven states.

6/6/2008 Energy Shock and Climate Change Conference at NYIT
3rd Annual Conference ENERGY SHOCK AND CLIMATE CHANGE: SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR CONVERGING CRISES was held June 6, 2008 from 8:30 am - 2 pm at NYIT de Seversky Center, Old Westbury, NY. Panelists included LIPA, National Grid and NYC.

4/28/2008 AEE-LI Meeting/Demonstration at The Solar Center - POSTPONED
Our April 28 Meeting (7pm) and private demonstration for AEE-LI at the recently opened facility operated by “The Solar Center” in Dix Hills has been POSTPONED. The facility features extensive “touchable” solar electric and hot water system components, with weekly solar seminars, regular presentations on wind, geothermal and energy efficiency. 3/31/2008 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - “A Crude Awakening - The Oil Crash”
March meeting of AEE-LI was held March 31, 2008 on the Old Westbury campus of NYIT. This meeting featured a video and discussion on “A Crude Awakening - The Oil Crash”, hosted by Dr. Robert Amundsen, AEE-LI Chapter President and Director of the M.S. in Energy Management Program at NYIT.

11/19/2007 AEE-LI Chapter November Meeting - biodiesel and bioheat
The November monthly meeting was held Monday, November 19, 2007 on the Old Westbury campus of NYIT. For our November Meeting, Steven J. Levy of Sprague Energy shared the most up-to-date information on the biodiesel and bioheat industry. He covered supply, availability, product quality and the most recent information on purchasing considerations for biofuel. Steven is one of the pioneers in clean fuels.

10/22/2007 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - Energy Star Homes
The AEE-LI Chapter October 2007 meeting was held Monday October 22 at 7pm at NYIT's Old Westbury campus. Guest Speaker Gary Krieger, ENERGY STAR® Homes Program Manager for the Long Island Power Authority presented on "How to Incorporate ENERGY STAR Standards in Residential New Construction".

10/1/2007 Fall 2007 AEE-LI Chapter Meetings - October revised!
The AEE Long Island Chapter will hold our monthly meetings on Mondays at 7 pm this Fall: September 17, October 22 (revised), and November 19. No December meeting has been scheduled. Fall 2007 Meetings will be held in Room 303 of Anna Rubin Hall on the Old Westbury campus of NYIT. Members and non-members are welcome to attend.

9/17/2007 AESP Technology Symposium - Sept. 17-19, 2007
The Association of Energy Service Professionals' 3rd Technology Symposium: "What's New in Energy Efficiency, Renewable and Demand Response Technologies" was held Sept. 17-19, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency in Hauppauge, Long Island. Sponsors included LIPA, NYSERDA and Cannon Technologies. 8/15/2007 Forum: Energy for the Future - sponsored by LIPA, KeySpan & National Grid

4/23/2007 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - HVAC Technology
At the April 2007 meeting. John Cockerill of Exquisite Heat presented on a new space heating/cooling system control technology which he developed and patented. He presented a description of how the system works and some case studies describing savings results. For more info, see the web site www.Exqheat.com. Mr. Cockerill has been involved with the development of heating/cooling technology since 1979.

3/26/2007 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - PV Technology
The first Spring 2007 Chapter meeting was held Monday, March 26. The speakers from Clear Skies Group (CSG) included Chairman and CEO Ezra Green and Rami A. Mikhail, Exec. VP of Sales. CSG installs photovoltaic solar electric systems and develops technologies that improve the effectiveness of renewable energy solutions. Mr. Green's presentation discussed renewable energy developments on Long Island, principally for photovoltaic applications, the business case, construction/installation issues, costs, incentives, LIPA initiatives, and the pros and cons.

11/13/2006 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - Leviton Field Trip
The AEE-LI Chapter meeting for November 2006 was held Monday Nov. 13 at the Leviton Company Site in Little Neck, Queens. Leviton's Tom Degnan presented and demonstrated some of Leviton's Energy Saving Controls and Integrated System Product lines.

10/16/2006 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - Home/Office Automation
The AEE-LI Chapter October 2006 meeting held Monday October 16, 2006 featured a presentation on home/office automation and utility demand response by Chapter Secretary Joe Lopes. The scheduled presentation on KeySpan's Distributed Generation and Architect & Engineering Programs was postponed and will be rescheduled.

9/18/2006 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - LIPA Commercial Construction Program
The AEE-LI Chapter Fall 2006 meeting schedule featured Mr. Glenn LaMay's presentation on LIPA's Commercial Construction Program (CCP), Retrofit Energy & Capacity Programs (RECAP), and the Building Operators Course (BOC).

3/13/2006 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - Stony Brook Energy Systems
The AEE-LI Chapter met at NYIT's campus on Monday, March 13, 2006 at 7 pm, and featured a presentation by Peter Krumdieck of Stony Brook University. His presentation on Stony Brook's Energy Systems was well-attended by an audience of over 20 people.

11/14/2005 AEE-LI Chapter Meeting - LIPA Light Solutions Program
The AEE-LI Chapter meeting featured Ms. Terresa Daniels, C.E.M., who gave a presentation on: "LIPA's Light Solutions Program." She explained how efficient outdoor lighting can improve safety, reduce costs, and avoid "light pollution" of nearby properties and the night sky. She described pilot installations, technical services, and cost-effective solutions for businesses.

9/12/2005 Solar House Demonstration
In conjunction with the AEE-LI Chapter Meeting, David Schieren, graduate Master's student at NYIT's Energy Management Program, demonstrated the NYIT entry in the Solar House competition before it was shipped to Washington, DC for its successful showing in the National Solar Decathlon competition.
